Letter from Mr. Tyndall
Hello Band Students and Parents!
Great News! The 2008 – 2009 Rising Starr Symphonic
Band has been invited to perform at the 62nd Midwest
Clinic, to be held in Chicago, Illinois, the week of
December 16th – 20th, 2008. This is a
tremendous honor as only 3 middle school bands from
the United States have been invited to perform! I am
so proud of our students!
I know that you will have many, many questions. I am
planning a Midwest informational meeting on Tuesday,
April 15th, at 7:00p.m. in the Rising Starr band
room. Concerns such as the performance date and
time, costs, exams, costs, chaperones, costs, and
other things will be addressed. Please keep in mind
that this is actually our second performance at
Midwest (the first was in 2003) and we are already
working on all issues. Mrs. Patton and the Rising
Starr staff are completely behind this performance
and are willing to do whatever possible to make it a
success!
Symphonic band auditions for next year will not
begin until Monday, April 21st. Your child, if
interested in auditioning, should already have an
audition contract that you need to read completely,
sign, and return to me no later than Friday, April
18th. If your child is interested in auditioning,
then attending the April 15th meeting is vitally
important!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Rising Starr Middle School
Symphonic Band
which has been invited to perform at the 2008
Midwest Clinic, in Chicago, Illinois, December
16-20, 2008!
The Midwest
Clinic is the pinnacle of performance in the band
world, as only three (3) middle school bands from
the U.S. and 33 other countries are selected to
perform! This is a tremendous honor for Rising
Starr and the band program! Even more amazing
is that this is the 2nd time the RSMS Band has been
invited to Midwest in six years (performing in
December 2003)!

Check this page often to learn more
about the trip plans and preparations. There
will be much work to do and much fundraising to take
place, and that means we will need support from ALL
of our band families to make it successful. We
will be asking parents to take on leadership roles,
serve on committees, volunteer time, etc.
The first step in these plans will
take place at a meeting on TUESDAY, APRIL 15th,
at 7:00 p.m. in the band room. This
meeting is for all those current 7th graders in
Symphonic Band who will be in Symphonic Band next
year, as well as all current 6th and 7th grade Concert Band members who intend to
audition for next year's Symphonic Band.
At this meeting,
general information regarding the trip and
preparations will be discussed, as well as
EXPECTATIONS of those members and families who are
selected for the Symphonic Band. If you and
your child are serious about being in Symphonic Band
next year, please make EVERY EFFORT to attend this
meeting.
Again,
congratulations to THIS YEAR'S Symphonic Band for
their awesome performance
resulting in this invitation. And good luck to
NEXT YEAR'S Symphonic Band in their preparations for
the trip!
